Tattoo Trends: Lower Lip Pink Tattoo

We've seen it all when it comes to fashion and patterns in African and African-American culture; from- bleaching creams, gold grids, sagging pants and now pink lips. Yes friends, pink tattoo on the lower lip (or red, if you prefer) is the latest craze of fashion among many men in Nigeria. This is a new fashion trend sweeping Nigerian tattoo parlors across the country - called "Pink Lips". High quality tattoo ink is used for this purpose as lips are pretty sensitive.

The process involves young men with their lower lip tattooed with pink paint. And there’s no specific reason as to why they decided to mark their lips permanently in such a fashion! A tattoo artist Lagos said he "cleans" the black lips by painting them pink. The beneficiaries of the procedure believe that pinker lips attract the opposite sex.

Personally, those pink lips tattoo remind us of undermining stereotypical cartoons back in the day when blacks had dark-skinned sport lips that had shades of pink and were mocked by exaggerated racist and degrading images. An image comes to mind: Little Black Sambo! Ironically, it was a tale character beloved raccoon and was very adorable with those pink lips. Sambo was as popular as today Wimpy Kid Diaries or Curious George.

Now, half a century later, on the shores of the country, we see this buffoonery pink lip being embraced as a fashion statement. If you ask me, I think this is yet another attempt to change the misunderstood reality of hatred for black skin.

Tattoo - Sterilization and Cleanliness

Often an individual tattoo artist will fancy taking into consideration the possibility of tattoo making at home itself. While it's not always a bad thing, most states have laws that a person cannot perform tattoos without a cleanliness and sterility maintained. In most cases, an official from the Ministry of Health will come down to home / studio and inspect the area, ensuring that it meets certain room cleanliness levels. These levels of examination are extremely high and no exception is made.

While the average home tattoo artist will consider this rule unfair and an invasion of privacy, the reasoning behind such laws is actually quite valid. Every time a tattoo gun draws a line on the flesh of a person, it perforates the skin thousands of times. Thus the possibility of acquiring an infection in any given tattoo is immense.
With this we come to the conclusion that person, at home or in studio, it is essential to invest in tattoo sterilization supplies. What are these supplies? There are some, but not quite as much as some people think. However, the standardization is the same for home or parlor.
First of all, each tattoo artist needs a machine, an autoclave. This piece of equipment is smaller than microwave, in most cases, and involves a process using heat, pressure and steam sterilization.

The autoclave process is very easy and starts at a basic level. Once a tattoo is finished, the artist firstly cleans the tools as best he / she can with lukewarm water. After that, they put these equipments in pocket specially designed with sterilization sensitiveness. This pocket is then placed inside the autoclave for a period of at least 55 minutes. The tools are hence left in the autoclave until next use.
Autoclaves can be purchased virtually from any major distributor of tattoo equipment, but it is strongly suggested to buy a new one only. Those used will be cheaper, but you never know what you get or how long it will last. In long term, you'll probably save money by buying new.
Another aspect that must be kept in mind is that, the tattoo artist should also sterilize his hands, arms and working area, as well as they should inspect themselves for any lacerations, cuts or abrasions.

Its the dream of every person to become his own boss, as its good to be a boss. Many tattoo artists start their own set up after working for a decent amount of time as a tattoo artist. It is very necessary to work as an artist prior starting your own business as it will give you the exact knowledge of working under pressure, team management and employ satisfaction.

The formal process of setting up any business is to make a precise business plan which include all the lucid details like initial staff, marketing strategy, purchase of tattoo supplies and other necessary equipments, collaboration with other tattoo artists etc. After making a business plan the first step is to acquire a license to run a tattoo studio as most of the states in USA are regulated either by Health Department or by the Department of Cosmetology. If you are not living in a regulated state, you should set your own working standards related to hygiene and working condition in the studio.

When you are done with all other stuff, the foremost task is to select the best location for starting your studio. Location must be easily approachable for your clients as well as for the artists so that you can build a strong client tel and provide best services to your clients with flexible schedules.

I hope these points will help you a lot in setting up a tattoo studio, suggestions are welcomed so that I can add some more points here.
